You'll notice that while I'm not a total sack of dough I'm... on the heavy side for a teenager. What you won't notice is that during that time I also wore glasses and had braces. At seventeen years old--the prime of my metabolic life--I was pushing 210 pounds at 6'3" (and that's assuming I didn't shave off 10 lbs for the record, which, I very well may have). Let's say I was Honest Abe though. Plugging those numbers into a BMI calculator puts me about +1.2 points into "overweight". It's not terrible, but I'm sure most of you dear readers underwent enough insecurity in high school to know that combining overweight with glasses and braces... doesn't exactly feel good.
In 2006 a peppy 6 year old boy with a head of insanely curly hair piled into the car with his father, his mother, and his adored 3-year old baby sister--who worryingly couldn't yet talk in sentences. The boy's mother was breathing hard and speaking urgently as they hastily drove to a Hospital for Women and Children in Orlando, Florida. That visit wore deep into the night, yet the boy didn't notice how tired and sullen his dad looked, or how his mother was supposed to be out hours ago. He did notice the Disney Channel on the waiting room TV.

A month back I volunteered at a food bank, and the project of the week was redesigning and reorganizing the entire meat locker. If you've never had to move large amount of meat at once, I can tell you that:
- Boxes of meat run very heavy, and;
- Meat lockers have a LOT of boxes of meat in them.
... And today I was supposed to be finishing the job. I remember thinking “There’s no way.”
